Participants in the High-Level Conference on Security and Stability in the SCO Region adopt joint statement

The joint statement issued by the SCO member states, observers, and dialogue partners after a High-Level Conference on Security and Stability in the SCO Region held in Moscow on June 4, 2015 reads that the dominant tendency of the contemporary stage of international relations is the formation of a multipolar world based on principles of common indivisible security and mutually beneficial equal cooperation.

"We express deep concern over the growing threats of terrorism and extremism, illegal drug trafficking and other forms of transnational organised crime and call for the build-up of international efforts in combating these global challenges and threats. Another task requiring increased attention is international opposition to violent extremism," the statement said.

The conference participants emphasised the exclusive importance of the 70th Anniversary of Victory over Nazism in World War II and the formation of the United Nations "for comprehending the lessons of history and uniting the efforts of all states in ensuring a safe and worthy life for the peoples of our planet."

The SCO foreign ministers also expressed their respect for independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. "We support the efforts of the Government and people of Afghanistan aimed at establishment of a peaceful, stable and prosperous state," the statement says.

The conference participants said that they "view the SCO as one of the key and effective multilateral platforms for conducting broad dialogue and stand ready for constructive cooperation with all interested states and international organisations in the context of intensifying efforts to counter traditional and new security challenges and threats."
